Golden Light on Silver Water
The Doitsu Hariwake Butterfly is a variety that stops you in your tracks. This 10"–12" Select specimen combines a luminous, near-translucent platinum-white base with warm golden-orange (hariwake) patches that glow like sunlight through shallow water. The Doitsu scalation keeps the body clean and smooth — just a single row of mirror scales along the dorsal line — letting the color contrast take center stage. Add long, flowing butterfly fins that trail gracefully through the water, and you have a fish that's as mesmerizing in motion as it is at rest.
Selected at the Select grade — a great value entry into the butterfly koi family with genuine visual appeal and the distinctive Doitsu body style.

Care Notes
Doitsu Hariwake Butterfly koi are peaceful and adaptable, doing well in ponds with good filtration and clean water. Feed a color-enhancing diet like Blackwater Color Enhancing to maintain and brighten the golden hariwake pattern. Their long fins thrive in well-oxygenated water. Minimum pond size of 1,000 gallons recommended.

Hand-training your koi is a journey, not a switch you flip. Building that trust takes time — sometimes weeks, sometimes months — and it starts with showing up consistently at the water's edge. Every koi is different, and every pond relationship has its own pace. The reward is a fish that knows your footsteps and comes to meet you. How to Hand-Train Your Koi →
