Red Fire on White Silk — With Wings

The Kohaku is the most iconic koi variety in the world — the original, the benchmark, the fish that defines the hobby. This 10"–12" Select Kohaku Butterfly takes that classic two-color elegance and elevates it with long, flowing translucent butterfly fins that trail through the water like silk ribbons in a breeze. A bold, deep red-orange (hi) pattern dominates the body in sweeping, confident strokes, interrupted by clean white (shiro) breaks that create the contrast and balance that Kohaku judges prize above all else. A white blaze across the face adds a final touch of drama.

Selected at the Select grade for its strong, well-saturated hi coverage, clean white base, and the graceful butterfly fin development that makes this fish as beautiful in motion as it is at rest.

Care Notes

Kohaku are among the hardiest and most adaptable koi varieties, making them an excellent choice for hobbyists at any level. Feed a color-enhancing diet like Blackwater Color Enhancing to deepen and maintain the red hi pattern. Their long butterfly fins thrive in well-oxygenated water with good flow. Minimum pond size of 1,000 gallons recommended.
