Gold on Platinum — The Yamabuki Hariwake

The Yamabuki Hariwake is one of the most visually striking metallic koi in the hobby — a two-color fish that plays warm golden-yellow (yamabuki) against a brilliant platinum white base in bold, high-contrast patches. Think of it as the metallic world's answer to the Kohaku: clean, vivid, and immediately eye-catching from across the pond.

This 12"–14" Premium specimen displays rich, saturated yamabuki coverage across most of the body with bright platinum white base showing through in luminous contrast. The metallic sheen on both colors amplifies the effect — in sunlight, this fish practically glows.

What Makes This Fish Special

  • Bold golden-yellow (yamabuki) patches over a bright platinum white metallic base
  • High-contrast two-color pattern — vivid and striking from any angle
  • Full metallic sheen on both base and pattern colors — glows in sunlight
  • Premium grade — selected for color saturation, pattern balance, and body quality
  • 12"–14" size — a substantial, mature fish ready to be a centerpiece in your pond

Care Notes

Yamabuki Hariwake are hardy, peaceful koi that thrive in well-maintained ponds with good filtration. Feed a high-quality diet like Blackwater Color Enhancing or Blackwater Ultimate Combo Diet to maintain and deepen their golden color. Minimum pond size of 1,000 gallons recommended.

Hand-training your koi is a journey, not a switch you flip. Building that trust takes time — sometimes weeks, sometimes months — and it starts with showing up consistently at the water’s edge. Every koi is different, and every pond relationship has its own pace. The reward is a fish that knows your footsteps and comes to meet you. How to Hand-Train Your Koi →
